How to Calculate Proper Following Distance
One of the common questions asked at our Las Vegas driving school is about determining proper following distance. While the Nevada DMV recommends a minimum following distance of 2-seconds, we at NV Drivers Ed recommend a 3-4 following distance in optimum conditions, especially for new drivers. This is for passenger cars, SUVs and trucks. This 3-4 second distance is in dry weather with good visibility. If you are driving a motor vehicle on icy roads or in bad weather, the distance should be increased.
